Welcome to the Center for Dignity's Old Testament Self-Paced Course! This class will provide mini-lessons on the social, historical, literary, and theological contexts of the Old Testament. The goal is to introduce you to the content of the Old Testament and equip you with foundational tools and knowledge to engage in dialogue about it. There is no required reading, but there will be supplemental readings available for further exploration. The learning outcomes of this class include identifying the historical contexts of the Old Testament, understanding its unity within the Christian tradition, recognizing the Bible as a norm for Christian discipleship, and articulating the content of selected Old Testament books. The instructor, AJ, is a hospital chaplain in rural Montana and holds a Doctor of Ministry in Scripture, Spirituality, and Leadership. They have published works on Old Testament studies and enjoy teaching about the Old Testament. Recommended reading includes the New Interpreter's Study Bible and "Telling the Old Testament Story."
