Welcome to the Center for Dignity's Old Testament Self-Paced Course!

This class is designed for you to engage with the world of the Old Testament through mini-lessons on the social, historical, literary, and theological contexts as well as provide a critical study of the Old Testament.

This class is designed to be a journey which serves to introduce you to the basic content of the divine-human drama that unfolds within the pages of the Bible and to equip you with foundational tools, skills, and knowledge to dialogue about the drama of the Old Testament for a lifetime.

There is nothing required to read for this class, however, there will be a short list of supplemental readings provided throughout if you'd like to explore some of the topics/themes more. All of the links to books are links to an Amazon Affiliate page.

The Learning Outcomes of this class are:

  1. Identify the Historical Contexts of the Old Testament
  2. Articulate the unity of the Old Testament in its canonical context within the larger Christian tradition.
  3. Articulate and appreciate the ways in which the Bible, understood as a given by divine inspiration, functions as the norm for Christian discipleship, faith, and practice; and,
  4. Articulate the basic content of the selected books of the Old Testament and the methods appropriate for interpreting those types of books.
